LICENSING FEE FOR OWNERS 70 AND OLDER

To see if the Town will vote to accept MGL Chapter 140, Section
139c and allow the waiver of canine licensing fees in Title VIII,
Article 2, Section 4F3 for owners 70 years of age or older; or take
any action related thereto.

This article seeks acceptance of a local option that will allow the
Town to waive the Town’s dog licensing fee for any dog owner
aged 70 years or over. If accepted, this provision of state law
(G.L.c.140, sec.139(c)) will become available for inclusion in the
Town’s Canine Control Bylaw (Title VIII, Article 2) and as
considered by Article 20 on this year’s Annual Town Meeting
Warrant. The Board voted unanimously to support acceptance of
this provision.
Vote Language:
That the Town does and hereby accept the provision of
Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 140, §139(c) that
authorizes the town to waive the license fee for a dog owned by a
person aged 70 years or over.
