To see if the Town will vote to amend Title IV - Public Areas, to
create Article 6 Native Planting on Public Lands; or take any
action related thereto

Vote and comment to Town Meeting - No Action (5-0)
The Board voted unanimously to recommend that no action be
taken on this article. The intended purpose of this proposed
bylaw, which would apply only to town plantings on town owned
land, is to encourage the use of native vegetation so that the
expected benefits of establishing and protecting native vegetation
for species conservation, ecological restoration and climate
change mitigation may be realized.
At its initial hearing, the Board expressed general support for the
use of native or climate adaptive plants on town owned property.
The Board was divided, however, whether the prescribed use of
specific plants on town properties by town departments could be
done as a policy matter rather than through a bylaw. Following
the hearing, the Board received a request from the article’s
proponent, the Director of Planning and Community Development,
requesting that the Board consider a vote of no action because,
upon further reflection, it was believed the goals of this article
could be best accomplished by town policy in conjunction with the

Town Manager, rather than as a bylaw. Based on this request,
the Board voted to recommend no action.
