Arlington Town Meeting — Motion to Amend

ARTICLE NO. 16 Dated: 4-28-26

I, Ezra Fischer, do hereby submit the following Motion to Amend Article 16:

To amend the main motion by replacing all references to “marriage” with “marriage or

domestic partnership."

Comment:

This will involve making the following changes to the recommended vote of the Select Board

within Title IX, Article 3, Section 2. Office of the Town Clerk (additions are underlined and

removals are in strikeout):

*B. For entering amendment of a record of the birth, death or marriage or domestic

partnership $25.00

* C. For correcting errors in a record of birth, death or marriage or domestic partnership

$25.00

* D. For furnishing certificate of birth, death or marriage or domestic partnership $10.00

These small changes are valuable so that people who are choosing domestic partnerships instead

of marriages feel that domestic partnerships are not considered to be a second-class form of

relationship. This is an equity issue and in line with both the spirit and letter of Title 1, Article 23

Domestic Partnerships, as voted into the bylaws by Town Meeting in 2021 and amended in 2022.
